PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Sharp heel or arch pain, especially with your first morning steps?
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of pain beneath the heel and arch of the foot. Our podiatrists can assess what may be overloading the tissue and create a clear management plan

COMMON SYMPTOMS
Does any of this sound familiar?
Plantar fasciitis typically follows a characteristic pattern. You may notice one or more of the following:
- Sharp, stabbing pain beneath the heel during your first morning steps
- Pain that eases slightly as you move around, but worsens after prolonged rest
- Discomfort along the arch of the foot after standing or walking
- Pain that intensifies towards the end of an active day
- Stiffness or tenderness when pressing on the underside of the heel
- Limiting your ability to exercise, run or walk comfortably
You don't need a diagnosis before booking.
A podiatry assessment will determine what is causing the pain and what next steps are suitable.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
What may be causing plantar fasciitis?
The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue running under the foot. Several factors can cause it to become irritated or overloaded:
Sudden increase in activity
Upticks in walking, running, or standing on hard surfaces can overload the tissue.
Foot mechanics & posture
Low arches, high arches, or tight calves can place higher strain on the plantar fascia.
Footwear support
Unsupportive shoes, worn-out soles, or walking barefoot on hard floors can trigger irritation.
Calf & Achilles tightness
Tightness along the posterior chain alters how the foot absorbs load during walking.
WHEN TO SEEK ASSESSMENT
When should you consider getting plantar fasciitis checked?
Consider arranging an assessment if:
- Morning heel pain has lasted more than two weeks
- The pain is altering the way you walk or causing a limp
- Rest, stretching or over-the-counter insoles have not resolved it
- You are having difficulty continuing your normal exercise routine
- You want a clear clinical assessment rather than guessing the cause
