SPECIALIST WOUND CARE
Specialist assessment and management for foot wounds & ulcers
Foot ulcers and open wounds require immediate, expert clinical attention. Atlantic Podiatry's highly trained podiatrists deliver advanced wound healing techniques, pressure offloading, and meticulous dressing protocols to promote rapid healing and prevent infection

RECOGNISING FOOT WOUNDS
When a skin breakdown occurs
Foot ulcers can start small and worsen without proper clinical care:
- An open sore, break in the skin, or shallow wound on the foot or toes
- Fluid discharge, moisture on socks, or unusual odour
- Redness, warmth, or swelling surrounding a blister or callus
- Darkened or black tissue (necrosis) beneath a callus
- A wound that has not healed or shrunk after 7 to 10 days
Early wound intervention is the single most important factor in rapid healing.
We offer prompt appointments for urgent foot wound concerns.

UNDERSTANDING WOUND CAUSES
Why do foot ulcers occur?
Wounds develop when skin breaks down under pressure, friction, or poor healing capacity:
Repetitive pressure & friction
Ill-fitting footwear or rigid bony prominences rubbing against skin.
Diabetic neuropathy
Loss of sensation allows a friction blister or pebble injury to become an open ulcer.
Ischaemia (poor blood supply)
Reduced arterial circulation prevents normal tissue repair.
Unmanaged calluses
Thick callus acts as a rigid object, crushing soft tissue underneath until it breaks.
URGENT CARE
When to seek immediate wound assessment
Contact us promptly if you observe:
- Any new or non-healing break in the skin on your foot or ankle
- Spreading redness, swelling, or heat around a sore
- Draining fluid, pus, or foul odor from a toe or sole
- You have diabetes and discover a new blister or wound
