ABOUT THE SERVICE

What is nail surgery?

Nail surgery involves the partial or total removal of a problematic toenail under local anaesthetic to alleviate chronic pain and recurring infection.

Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) removes only the offending narrow edge of the nail, preserving a natural-looking toenail.

A chemical agent (Phenol) is applied to the nail matrix to prevent the painful edge from regrowing, providing a long-term solution.

WHEN IT MAY HELP

When might nail surgery be considered?

Nail surgery is recommended when conservative conservative care fails to resolve:

  • Recurring or severe ingrown toenails
  • Repeated toenail infections requiring antibiotics
  • Thickened, deformed, or painful nail spikes
  • Severe discomfort when wearing enclosed shoes

Performed comfortably in-clinic under local anaesthetic.

You can walk out the same day with a protective dressing.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What does the recovery involve?

Because of the local anaesthetic, you feel no pain during the procedure.

You will need an open-toed shoe or sandal to accommodate the bulky dressing afterwards.

Healing typically takes a few weeks, with follow-up re-dressing appointments included at the clinic.
